Gary Vaynerchuk Will be Bigger than Oprah |... →
gary: I mean Jason this is so kind and humbling! All this Oprah take is crazy …. for now ;) lol! Thank you I am honored and the comments in your post are also amazing! I have to agree. I feel good when I watch Gary, and he makes me think in new ways that expand my awareness. Oprah on the other hand must appeal to a different demographic.

Scobel on Web 2.0 →
Scobel put up a very interesting article on humanizing the web, using Best Buy as an example. I’ve attached my comments. It’s a good article.

Credit Card Data Taken during SXSW →
According to this article, credit card data was stolen from customers of the Magnolia Cafe during SXSW. The interesting aspect of this isn’t that the credit card data was taken, but the fact that it was receipts taken. Those receipts contained the full 16-digit card numbers which is a clear violation of PCI rules. Magnolia Cafe would qualify as a Tier 4 merchant under Visa’s rules,...

SXSW ... A Look Back →
Whitney Hess has done a great job of summarizing her experience at SXSW, Regardless of if you were there or not, it’s definitely worth reading.

Asking the Right Questions... →
At a conference last year of some of the world’s most renowned and experienced researchers, I asked the question: “What is the defining characteristic of great research?” The most impressive answer I heard had nothing to do with diligence, breadth or depth of work, or even analytical quality. It was: “It asks important questions.” (I loved this image when I saw it...

The Macgyver Approach →
MacGyver, for those of you who don’t know, was a show back in the day about a guy who used his brain power to solve problems. In truth, he has a lot in common with slackers. In fact, I would say if you watch him closely on the show, he really is a slacker. Just one who happens to be caught in life threatening situations and whose day to day responsibilities include saving the world. Of course, he...

OK, it’s official: branding is out of control →
kriscolvin: WOW. This is a strange association. Imagine if the streets were littered with brand logos… would definitely change the experience of going to your favorite local haunts. Hmm. continuum: designinfo: KFC sponsors pothole repair.

Use a Rock to Crush Garlic - Brilliant →
Find a rock that is smooth and is about the size of your palm. Look for one that is comfortable and not too heavy in the hand. When you first pick the rock, run it through the dishwasher a few times and it’s ready to use. If you don’t have a dishwasher just wash it in hot soapy water with a bit of bleach. To crush garlic, hold the rock and smash it on a clove of garlic. Pull out the...

If not you, who? →
Whitney Hess was gracious enough to share the slides from a recent presentation she gave on evangelizing yourself. She also has the rare ability to avoid inflicting “death by powerpoint” to her viewers. It’s a rare deck that can stand on it’s own and still be both enlightening and entertaining. I suggest strongly that you take a few minutes and go through this deck.  Then,...

The Art of Competition
I thought this was a fascinating post that everyone should read regardless of your business or role. I find it funny that we try to downplay competition with children these days when we should be teaching them to embrace it. kriscolvin: You can always tell an amateur player from a true competitor. Wannabe’s, or “me-too’s” as we call them in the software industry, will copy ideas directly, from...

Farewell to Seat 6D - Hello to Project: Learned
To everything there comes time to change. This hit me more than ever as I watched MSP and DTW being rebranded from Northwest hubs to Delta. It was a sad moment for those of us that loved the red tail. Still, we must move forward to grow. Over the coming weeks, you will see this journal evolve beyond it’s roots. For a long time it has been known as “Seat 6D” with the following...

Destination Richmond: Capital Ale House
I’m in Richmond, VA for a few days this week visiting existing customers. I’m staying out at the Doubletree by RIC airport, which is a fine hotel if you don’t mind very average breakfasts, and not being able to get into your room on an ongoing basis. Other than that, seems like a lovely place. I haven’t had time to check out the fitness center yet, but I walked by and it...

The Last Will & Testament of Circuit City →
This is a well done article on the final gasps of a brand. As interesting as the article are some of the comments, berating the author for not having taken “top quality” photos when he was there. One even suggested that he should have set up a tripod in the store to take the photos.

The Top 10 List of Earmarkers →
I generally don’t get into politics on this blog, but I am so furious with both parties and the constant actions not equal promises that I have to post this. It lists the top 10 contributors to earmarks on the recent debacles that they call the spending or stimulus bills. As you can see, there is plenty of pork to go around regardless of your affiliation. Read it and weep.
