I recently discovered Note2Self when browsing through the iTunes App Store. A bit of background, I am a typical road warrior spending a majority of my time either driving, in airports, or running between the two. My actual time spent at a desk is minimal. Given that lifestyle, I have been constantly searching for a voice app that was seamless to use for those moments when I was driving or just not able to devote 100% attention to my iPhone. Enter Note2Self. This is a slick little application that does one thing very well. It records an audio file and sends that file to a default email address. Based on the configuration, there are no buttons to push. You start the application, and raise the phone to your ear to talk on it. The application gives you a vibration notice that it is recording and starts recording immediately. Take the phone away from your head and the email is sent to the default address.
I first tried this with sending to my mail account, but that was still messy as I probably didn’t want to deal with the notes at that time. Then it hit me. Send the Note2Self emails to my Evernote account. It works perfectly, allowing me to listen to the notes when I am doing my weekly reviews back at my desktop computer. Could it be better? Yes, on the evernote side, while I can play the audio files with no problem on my desktop, they do not yet play from my iPad or iPhone from Evernote. The only way I can hear them from either of those devices is to forward them to my gmail account. That isn’t a problem with Note2Self however, and this application has now earned a key spot on my iPhone home screen.
